Guns and Butter Presents: "Vietnam, Star Wars and 9/11"
Vietnam Vet and former Star Wars director Dr. Robert Bowman talks about then and now
GUNSANDBUTTER Aug 2010 | "In 1982 they wrote the defense guidance document, which Reagan signed, Richard Perle wrote it. It ordered the Pentagon to deploy Star Wars and it assigned them two missions: The first was to destroy opposing satellites and seize military control of space; and the second was to destroy targets on the surface of the earth without warning. The other thing that was in that defense guidance document was changing our overall military policy from one of war prevention to one of war fighting.
"For years, most of us in the military believed that what we were doing was protecting the American people by preventing world war three. That was all thrown aside. And the document ordered the Pentagon to prepare to fight and win a protracted nuclear war. That's a policy I simply could not support."
